Year 5 Teacher: Miss Courtney Bennett
Year 5 News!
We’re well into Year 5 now and have already done some amazing learning. Our India topic is continuing with our Geography focus: Climate, Rivers and Mountains and will move on to History: Hinduism, British Empire, important historical figures and Indian Culture!
In English we have been looking at Indian Folk Tales as well as learning more about the Windrush Generation as part of Black History Month.
Maths is No Problem as we’ve learnt in depth about Number and Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and we will be moving on to Multiplication and Division and Fractions and Decimals.
In RE we have been discussing ‘Ourselves’ and how we are all unique but also connected in many ways. Next we are thinking about Life Choices before we delve into Judaism and Hope in the lead up to Christmas.
We’ve already replicated the Bayeux Tapestry with a focus on the animals for the Hastings Week Art Competition in Art. We also created a beautiful shared autumn wreath for display in Church for the Harvest festival. In addition, we have been looking at the art work of Kara Walker and using her as inspiration for our own Windrush inspired silhouette art! Next, we will be designing and making our own Hamsa Hands using clay to help us further understand the Indian culture!
